Inclusive Education in the Visegrád Countries
International Conference

Benczúr Hotel Budapest
29-30th March 2010

The Association of Special Education Methodological Centers organized a successful conference and workshop with the help of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Hungary for the Visegrád Four countries (Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary). A Declaration about the will to go on with a regional cooperation in developing inclusive education has been issued by the participants on the second day.

Ms Amanda Watkins, Assistant Director of the European Agency for Development in Special Needs Education and Ms Lucie Bauer, Head of Department of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in Austria were the special guests of the event amongst colleagues from governmental organizations and education institutions of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia.

On the first day more than 60 invited participants could get an insight to inclusive education policies and everyday practice in the V4 countries. The closing presentation was held about how to build international networks in order to learn from each other. Two short videos illustrated everyday practice with SEN children in Poland and in Hungary.

On the second day a declaration was made by the participants to foster further cooperation. This declaration serves as a summary of results of the event. Nevertheless it was not the only outcome of the two days. Despite of language barriers the participants could exchange experiences and share their view about inclusive education policy and practice.

We hope that all our guests had a pleasant and useful stay in Budapest. We are looking forward to our next meeting.
